3 Reasons to Choose Stamped Concrete or Exposed Aggregate for your Concrete Driveway

1. Biondo Cement offers endless color and design options.

Stamped concrete is a specialized type of decorative cement made by “stamping” patterns into the surface of the concrete with specially created forms. The simplicity of the technique allows for creative freedom; you simply don’t get with plain cement. Different colors, designs, and patterns are possible, and Biondo has dozens of these options available for you to choose from at our Concrete Showroom in Shelby Township. You can choose from slate, stone, wood panel stamps, and more – the sky’s the limit! Work one-on-one with our expert designer to create a patio that is as unique as you are. Within just a few days, we can frame, pour, and finish a stamped concrete patio just for you, that you helped create!

2. Improves your home’s curb appeal.

Compared to decks or brick pavers, concrete is the obvious choice for durability and maintenance. A patio built by Biondo Cement is one that will last. Even in Michigan’s inclement weather. From our carefully compacted base layer, steel rod reinforcements, and high-grade cement mix, each step of our meticulously honed process delivers the ideal result in terms of appearance and integrity. When the installation is complete, all that is required now is keeping up with sealing every couple of years. Sealing will maintain the lush, glossy finish and protect the concretes integrity. That’s it!

3. Improves the resale value of your home.

Having a decorative concrete patio, driveway, or walkway installation is a great way to open up you and your family to the joys of outdoor living. Elevate your barbecues, birthdays, and even just lounging time with your loved ones. Decorative concrete enhances the appearance and mood of your outdoor life, giving you a space to enjoy Michigan’s natural beauty. And that’s not all. Exposed aggregate concrete increases the resale value of your home, and people surveyed rate homes consistently with decorative concrete as being more attractive and contemporary. A smart investment for you now, and in the future – what’s not to love? Call us today to schedule your FREE in-home estimate!

How to Pour Concrete Driveways – Biondo Cement’s Concrete Driveway Installation Process

1. Tear out the existing driveway and prepare the area to pour cement.

Our crews will arrive on the first day of the job with all the necessary equipment to tear out and remove the old driveway. Next, forms are set in place to define the area in which the concrete is installed. We ask that homeowners be present on the first day of the job to approve the forms, so we can ensure that you get precisely the design you want. We then lay down 21AA crushed concrete and carefully compact it to ensure an even footing. After that, steel rod reinforcements are layed throughout the entire project. This will add additional structural integrity to the finished product.

2. Pour the concrete, finish it smooth, and broom finish if preferred.

Once the forms are all set, we’re ready to pour! Concrete trucks arrive, and the base color you choose will be added into the cement mix and thoroughly incorporated. Then the pouring begins. After pouring the cement, our skilled installers will use a screed to smooth the surface of the concrete carefully. Biondo’s skilled craftsmen are highly trained and will make sure your driveway has a beautiful, smooth, even finish.

3. Allow the cement to harden overnight then return to remove the forms and saw cut expansion joints.

At this stage, we leave the cement to harden overnight. Then, we use specialized diamond-cut sawblades to cut expansion joints into the driveway. Wide fluctuations in temperature, common to southeast Michigan, cause the cement to expand and contract, which can result in cracked cement. By cutting expansion joints, you give the concrete flexibility to move and prevent any damage. That’s it. You are now the proud owner of a brand new, beautiful concrete driveway, ready to serve all your parking needs!
